There were only a few oddities in Belle's life that she had to take note of while she was growing up.

1. She had no mother whereas all of her friends in the town did.
2. Sometimes unexplainable things just…happened around her.
3. All the adults in the town thought she was odd.

But Maurice, her father, could very easily explain these things to her and did so when they happened to come up over the years.

1. Her mother died in childbirth.
2. She's a witch due to the fact that he himself is a squib and her mother was a Muggle-born.
3. Well, what did they know anyway?

So, Belle's thoughts that perhaps there was something more to life than going through a routine in a small town with small thinkers weren't incorrect. She felt free to think about the endless possibilities beyond the borders of the town in the years before her letter arrived from Beauxbatons. It was a bit unexpected as Maurice hadn't told her about the school her mother went to, but she happily went nonetheless and graduated with high honors.

Her curiosity led her to London where she saved up to buy a flat by doing various odd jobs in Diagon and brought Maurice with her to live there. They lived there peacefully for a few years while Belle explored the big city of London day after day until a man called Dumbledore came calling to offer her a job. Having heard great things about Hogwarts and eager to explore another facet of the wizarding world, Belle immediately accepted the job
